What’s different about Vapor Sweeper
Here’s what we think makes for a chill Minesweeper:
- The audio and visuals are super relaxing, ofc.
- The layout and controls are optimized for mobile phones in portrait mode, but scale nicely to any browser window.
- You don't need to guess to solve any of the puzzles we generate. You can always use logic to figure out a valid next move to make.
- You can use our “how to” hint system as much as you want with no penalties. Instead of just revealing moves, it explains techniques and lets you apply them.
Origins
One of the first games we released was Vapor Solitaire, and we sort of released it by accident - since then, it’s surprised us with its longevity. It’s still one of our most-played games, and people tell us it’s because it’s so chill. It’s got great music, relaxing vaporwave aesthetics, and tries not to get in the way.
We’ve been joking for a while that we should complete the Windows 95 vaporwave loop and build a chill version of minesweeper too. Jordan, our Principal Engineer, helped ensure it would happen by implementing a fully playable prototype in his spare time.
The rest of the team jumped in to help out, making it look and sound great and adding nice quality-of-life features. We’ve got more that we want to add, but it’s already in a spot where we’re enjoying it, so we wanted to get it out to our community for feedback.
Preview release feedback
Here’s a handful of areas where we’re looking for specific feedback:
- What do you think of the aesthetics and sound design? Is it chill enough?
- We’d like to add a daily mode where everyone’s solving the same puzzles. Is this something you’d be into? Do you have thoughts on how scoring should work?
- What other gameplay modes/features should we add?
The best place to give feedback is directly in the new #vapor-sweeper channel. You can report any bugs or other issues in our #support channel!
As always, we love any and all feedback, not just the specific stuff we’re looking for input on. Thanks as always for playing and being a part of our community!
